What really is the "deep core"?

Are you confused by all the chatter about the "deep core" on social media? Wondering if it's even a real thing? Perhaps it's playing a role in your low back pain? Let's dive in and unravel the mystery.

Layers of the Core

The core comprises four key muscles: the transversus abdominis, the internal obliques, the external obliques, and the rectus abdominis. Think of them as layers, in order from deepest to most superficial as listed above.

The transversus abdominis is often hailed as the "deep core" muscle for its pivotal role in spinal stabilization. It gives us a solid foundation, wrapping around the ides from the back to the front and anchoring to the spine, rib cage, and pelvis.

Now, onto the oblique muscles – they're the powerhouses behind twisting motions and make up the majority of our side core. Think of them as the muscles responsible for those satisfying torso twists in your yoga class or during a golf swing.

Lastly, the rectus abdominis, fondly known as the six-pack muscle, runs along the front of our abdominal wall, from the pelvis to the ribs and acts by bringing the ribcage closer to the pelvis.

But here's the million-dollar question: is the deepest layer win the award for being the most important? The truth is, it's not a competition. While the transversus abdominis often steals the spotlight, each core muscle plays a unique and indispensable role. It's like a symphony – every instrument has its part to play, and when they work together harmoniously, magic happens.

So, the next time you hear someone waxing poetic about the deep core, you'll know exactly what they're talking about. But remember, it's not just about one muscle – it's about the collective strength and synergy of all four core muscles working in tandem.

Loving Lately

Male and female, young or middle-aged, everyone should be using one! This one is a little more stylish and gets bonus points for being foldable.

Remember to prioritize hydration and electrolytes, espeically during pregnancy and postpartum. Well Balanced has LMNT drink packets in stock (variety packs and single flavors). If you would like to purchase, send us a message!

Ember's favorite flavors are raspberry and watermelon. Courtney's favorites are watermelon and orange. Sounds like watermelon is a must-have!

Traveling with a 40 oz Stanley wasn't ideal. Getting the 30 oz with the flip straw has been so nice for traveling to prevent spills. 30 oz is also a great size for a full LMNT packet!

For travel and for days where Eli wants extra snuggles and mom wants to be productive. We started with the Solly Baby wrap, but as he has gotten bigger the Aerial has been so much more comfortable for me and will grow with him. It allows for both front carrying and back carrying.

I have used this more than I thought I would -- for a change of gym clothes or to throw my portable pump. Cute for anything on the go!
